fitting stoves in tents

The Canvas and Cast flue systems are fabricated from Grade 1 durable and rust proofed stainless steel . Each section of flue pipe fits neatly together without the need for locking bands. Its superior quality means it will never rust or get chipped like some cheaper enamelled flue pipe. Each flue system comes complete with full instructions and everything you need to fit a stove into a bell tent in accordance with current regulations. Our flue kits have been especially designed with the current regulations and safety in mind. Much time has been given to safety in addition to ease of fitting and function.

Unless the flue exit clears the top of the tent we recommend wherever possible to exit the flue pipe through the side of the structure or as close to the roof edge as possible. This particularly case with Bell tents. Yurts with much shallower pitched roofs are much more suited to roof exit of flue as the safe height of flue can be achieved more quickly by adding less height to the flue system.

We strongly recommend that when considering operating a solid fuel stove inside a tent you try where ever possible to use the recommended and required safe distances of flue pipe from flammable materials contained in Part J of the current UK Building Regulations.

All woodburning stoves should be installed in accordance with part J of the current building regulations.

KEY POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN FITTING

When in operation ensure stove is no more than 150mm adjacent to canvas.

Provide adequate steel plate or glycroc/isokern shielding if no rear heat shieldis provided.

Ensure the top of chimney is no closer than 2.2M to the canvas of tent.

If exiting through roof ensure top of flue is high enough not to cause smoke damage and future acid degradation of the canvas.

The flue system must be supported in three positions one of which can be the location of flue system to stove. The flue system must then be securely clamped in two other places to ensure safe and stable operation regardless of any movement in the tent. For bell tents especially a rubber flashing for example placed for the flue exit cannot be considered as an anchor point as it not independent of the tents movement caused by adverse weather conditions.

Where possible shield stove from close contact with any flammable material and site on a hearth with 200mm clearance to front of stove firebox.

Select a tent that has a flame/heat resistant panel incorporated as part of the tent where the flue flashing is to be located.

As a qualified HETAS solid fuel engineer with over 15 years experience in fitting stoves I believe I have developed a flue kit both safe in addition to being straightforward to install with a stove into a bell tent.
